Piershine LED Garage Lights review

I think one of the most frustrating parts of any indoor project is a lack of adequate lighting.  As an example, my garage has several LED shop lights, which provide less than ideal coverage. Despite the addition of two more shop lights, several areas felt quite dim. To combat this problem, I have purchased several hand lamps for additional light. I found that they can add a bit of directional light, but traditional incandescent bulbs still lacked adequate light.  I decided to pair the PierShine LED Garage lights with one of my hand lamps to enhance my project lighting needs.

The Piershine LED 2 Pack arrived in a 9 1/8 inches long by 4 3/4 inches wide by 5 1/4 inches tall tan cardboard box. The top panel provided the company name, “LED” in large font, and provided details about the lights: 2 Pack, Quick Installation, Adjustable Aluminum (typo Alumonum) Heads.  The main panel provided an ink outline drawing of the fully expanded LED light and details about the 60W Power, 6000-6500K Color, AC 85-300V 50/60Hz input, and Black Color (available in blue/orange/white/yellow).  The rear panel provided an ink outline of the LED light in a folded configuration.  The left side panel listed a pair of QR codes to link to their Facebook account and listed their email, website, and company address. The right side panel showed an outline of the light and a 360-degree illumination field.

I opened the main flap to access the lights and removed both of the bubblewrap-encased, 9.9-ounce bulbs. Before throwing away the packaging, make sure that you remove the purple instruction manual and the scratch-off customer support card.  The dual-sided instruction manual detailed the basic parameters of the lights (Power 40W/60W/80W/120W, Color 6000-6500K, AC 85-300V 50/60Hz, Lumens 4000lm-12000lm) and provided a quick installation process.  To summarize the four panels, screw the light into an E26/27 socket while avoiding over-tightening.  When seated properly, adjust the lighting angle of the LED heads to your need.  The manual provided caution against using the device outdoors due to the lack of waterproofing.  Additionally, to protect your eyes, the instructions recommended against looking directly at the light. The back of the instruction panel provided information about joining their VIP membership team, provided the same QR code’s as the outer packaging and detailed the 18-month warranty/365-day free replacement/customer service information.

Each one of the lights arrived in a folded-up position.  I extended the three LED light heads, removed the plastic E26 screw cover, and installed the bulb into a hand lamp.  While in the triangular folded position, the light measured 4 15/16 inches tall by 4 1/2 inches wide. With the LED lights deployed, the triangular device measured approximately 10 inches by 10 inches by 10 inches long by 3 1/2 inches tall. Each of the LED heads had a plastic hinge with a metalic bolt pivot and appeared to have a nice-sized aluminum heat sink to dissipate heat. I plugged the type B plug of the hand lamp into a standard type-A outlet and pressed the power button.  I loved the amount of light that this setup provided and appreciated the ability to adjust the LED heads to angle the light.  Each of the heads could be pivoted within a ninety-degree arc and provided directional or ambient light depending on the position of the LED array. I found that I could use this feature to decrease the direct ambient light or increase the light intensity when needed.

When combined with a carabiner, I was able to hang the light from a hook above my workbench. I was able to move the cable within the hook to move the light closer to or farther away from my desktop project.  I draped the hanging light over the door of my TV cabinet to add light to my living room. With the added light, my son and I completed a puzzle and played a few board games. I have turned on/off the light approximately fifty times over the last 1.5 weeks and noted no change in the intensity of the light or the quality of the light. Using an IR thermometer, I measured the surface of the LED/plastic components at rest. In the powered-off position, the LED panel and the plastic housing read 71.7-73.4 degrees F. To test the heat output, I left the light on for 5 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes. The black plastic section directly adjacent to the socket measured 93 degrees F at 5 minutes and did not increase in temperature throughout the testing. The LED light surface reached a temperature of 143.7 degrees F, and the heat sink up to 195.9 degrees F. Needless to say, the device became too hot to hold after about five minutes and maintained the temperatures mentioned above. The cool white color provided a rich brilliant feel, without significant glare.

Overall, I was very pleased with the product, with the design, the ease of installation, and the light output.  If you are interested in enhancing the lighting within your garage, within a closet, or within an attic space, consider picking up a pair of these bulbs from Piershine.
