Holiday door decorations weren't at the top of my list when I moved into my new house, especially after the house flooded. I've always loved decorating for Christmas and now I'm excited about decorating for Easter. With little time to spare, I decided to look for Easter door decoration ideas at Home Goods. This way I could buy what I liked and quickly create a colorful, welcoming holiday front door.
Shopping was fun with my friend Jean there to bounce ideas off. It was amazing how many different Easter decorations there were, so here's my adventure in photos. My goal was to find an Easter wreath for my front door and there were lots to pick from, and so much more to look at.
So here are the wreaths I found at Home Goods in Naples, Florida. My first decision was whether I wanted a round wreath … or a bunny shaped wreath?
While I liked the bunny wreath idea, this particular one didn't appeal to me so I started comparing all the round wreaths I could use for my Easter door decorations. The choice below was challenging. My front door is blue so the wreath with the blue Easter eggs would look better … but I liked the wreath with the pink bunny.
Then I found another bunny wreath, one where you know immediately that it's an Easter bunny wreath. I thought long and hard about this wreath and even considered placing it inside a round wreath but decided that wouldn't work.
Creating My Easter Front Door Wreath
Years ago, my friend and a wonderful decorator in southern NH, Jen Myers, told me a perfect day was one where she went to three different Home Goods stores in one day. At the time I thought she was crazy but now I appreciate why she said this. I too went to another one or two stores over the next few days and found the perfect Easter door decorations for my house.
Here's what I learned that I liked about my favorite wreath. I love lilacs so while I would have preferred a wreath with no flowers, the lilacs saved me the time it would have taken to find and add color with flowers.
- Round, medium size wreath that works with my eight foot door.
- Mix of purple lilac flowers and green ficus leaves, full but not overwhelming.
- Without Easter door decorations glued to the wreath, it can be used all spring.
- Lightweight and well made, so it will be easy to store when I find a summer wreath.
What would an Easter wreath be without some decorations?
The challenge is finding Easter door decoration ideas that are easy to attach to a wreath and lightweight enough that they won't cause the wreath to fall off its hook. Today's Easter eggs are perfect! They come in different sizes, lots of color choices and they're made of styrofoam.
Why is that important? I picked up Easter eggs at each Home Goods store visited, in different colors and packaging. The ones I used for the wreath were strung on jute twine (you can see the string and bow below). Most of the eggs had holes big enough to string and a few needed their holes to be stretched.
Easter Door Decorating Ideas
Hanging my new wreath wasn't difficult because it doesn't weigh much. Instead of the traditional wreath hanger I have for heavier Christmas wreaths (hiding at the top of the door), a clear 5 lb command strip worked perfectly.
More Easter Decorating Ideas
You saw the welcome sign above, another of the Easter door decorating ideas discovered at Home Goods. The signs (below) were sitting below the wreaths so I had to check them out … and I actually bought my sign before the wreath. What I'm not sure about is whether the sign works with my front door which is set back 12 ft underneath an overhang.
